Welcome to the Science Hill High School and Liberty Bell Middle School Swimming & Diving Website
INFORMATION ABOUT WHERE WE ARE ON THE 2020-2021 SEASON (Updated August 5, 2020):
With school starting up next week, I have had several inquiries about the status of the Hilltopper Swimming & Diving Team and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is where we are as of today:
First of all, we (myself and the school administration) are going forward with the attitude that there WILL be a high school Swimming & Diving program at SHHS and LBMS this year. At this time, there are several unknowns that are being worked through.
TISCA (the governing body of high school swimming and diving in Tennessee - we are not governed by the TSSAA) has sent out a questionnaire to high school teams requesting input on several strategies for dealing with the issues that the pandemic has brought forth. Topping that list are strategies for the State Championship Meet. Several suggestions involve changing the dates of the meet and/or the format of the meet. These may or may not be acted upon, but discussion is out there. I see that as a good thing because it means people are thinking of ways to deal with the current health challenges. The Board of Directors is scheduled to meet in the next few weeks to go over the input that has been received and develop their strategy.
Once some clarification from TISCA occurs, we can then plan out our season.
What does that mean for our swimmers and divers right now? Usually, I have a lot more info available on this website. Because of the unknowns we are dealing with, some info (ie: the start of season date, the practice schedule times) are not able to be determined. Other information (forms required, etc) are available for everyone right now. The date and time of the Annual General Meeting is on hold until I have a better handle on answers that will impact training and competitions.
Those swimmers and divers who still need to get a preseason physical should do so now so they can be ready to practice on Day 1. Those who need to register and complete their DragonflyMAX profile and forms should, likewise, get that done now. (DragonflyMAX is the online platform that the Athletic Trainers use to collect forms prior ot declaring an athlete eligible. Middle school athletes will have to print them out, complete them, then physically turn them in.
Those athletes that are currently training (either on the Barracuda club team or on their own) are doing exactly what they need to be doing at this time. Whenever and in whatever form the high school season begins, those who are putting in the work now will be way ahead of everyone else. Once school begins next week, those students who are conscientious with their studies - even if those studies are via virtual classes - will be doing their part to remain academically eligible to compete and lessen the anxiety associated with falling behind in a class and then having to scramble to get caught up.
As soon as more info is available, I will pass it on.

SHHS Information Form LBMS Information Form
Required Forms: Certain forms are required before an athlete may participate in practices (including weight lifting and dryland) or meets. Please note that the Physical Form must be signed by a physician and dated after April 15, 2020.
For Science Hill: We are using a website called DragonFly to submit these forms. Click HERE to access instructions.
For Liberty Bell: You will need to go to the Forms page on this website, print off the forms, and turn them in to Coach Chris by the first day of practice.
GENERAL TRAINING SCHEDULE: The training schedule is designed to provide the opportunity for each athlete to perform at his/her best at the Championship Meets. We do have practices during school breaks and off days. Why? Because the school schedule is not designed to pursue excellence in the sport of Swimming and Diving.
